Our Removal From Minority Leadership Was Like Coup D'etat - Muntaka Cries Foul

Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed

Former Minority Chief Whip in Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase Constituency, Hon Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent change in the Minority Leadership in Parliament, referring to it as a "Coup D’etat".

The change saw his position being affected, as well as that of Haruna Idrisu.

Hon Muntaka voiced his concerns about the manner and procedure through which the party leadership executed the decision, deeming it disrespectful to both him and Haruna Idrisu.

He revealed that he was neither formally nor informally informed about their removal before hearing the news on the radio.

While he acknowledges that the party has the right to make such decisions, Hon Muntaka emphasized that being involved in the decision-making process would have provided him with a sense of comfort.

He expressed his disappointment, saying, "I was in my eleventh year in leadership, so the most decent way was to inform me about the change. When you are informed and appreciated for your good work, you would be a bit motivated even while at home but that was not the situation, it was like a Coup D’etat."

The former Minority Chief Whip's comments came in the wake of a significant shake-up in the Minority leadership within Parliament, which resulted in his removal.

The announcement of the changes was made in a letter signed by the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey.

The letter stated that Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson had taken over the position of Minority Leader from Haruna Iddrisu.

Additionally, Ellembelle MP, Kofi Armah Boah, replaced James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader and Kwame Agbodza assumed the role of Chief Whip, replacing Mr Muntaka Mubarak.
