In a recent interview with Valerie Danso on the GTV Breakfast Show, Ghana's dance sensation, Dancegod Lloyd, addressed rumors surrounding his departure from the Dance With Purpose (DWP) academy and his subsequent absence from the Global Citizen festival stage.
Contrary to speculations, Dancegod Lloyd revealed that he remains on good terms with the DWP crew despite his decision to pursue a solo path.
While rumors had been circulating about internal conflicts within the DWP group, Dancegod Lloyd emphasized that the choice to go solo was influenced by a "bigger calling" he felt within himself.
He expressed a desire to break free from conventional norms and explore new creative avenues, as people's expectations of dance continue to evolve.
"We have always been cool just that I have a bigger calling," Dancegod Lloyd shared candidly during the interview.
Addressing the notion that he could have continued with DWP while pursuing his solo ventures, he explained, "No, I have a bigger calling. I want to reach out to other people and focus on the new wave. I always want to be outside the box so that I can be more creative because people are expecting more from dance."
Dancegod Lloyd's departure from DWP was confirmed in a previous report by ghbase.com in September 2022.
The site also noted his comments during a TikTok live session, where he addressed rumors and tensions.
He was quoted as saying, "Don't let anyone lie to you. I have done what I can do and the rest is up to them. People are ungrateful. Remember that."
These remarks appeared to reflect his frustration over claims that he missed rehearsals and consequently couldn't perform on the Global Citizen festival stage.
