An Accra Circuit Court has made significant decisions in the ongoing trial involving the theft case at the residence of former Minister for Sanitation, Madam Cecilia Dapaah.
Two of the accused, both lactating mothers, were granted bail totaling GHC1 million with stringent conditions, while five others were remanded into police custody.
The accused are facing multiple charges related to the alleged theft of a substantial sum from the minister's house.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah, ordered the bail sureties to be justified and demanded documented evidence to prove the lactating mothers' status.
The trial judge's orders followed a prosecution led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Nyamekye, who revealed that the fact and charge sheets had been amended.
One accused, Kwaku Botwe, father of Patience Botwe, was discharged by the court, while another accused, Franklin Sarakpo, remained at large.
The case has been adjourned to August 22, 2023, for further proceedings.
The complainants in the case are identified as Mr. Daniel Osei Kufour and Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, residents of Abelemkpe in Accra.
The prosecution indicated that Patience Botwe, a househelp, and Sarah Agyei, a former house help, were among the accused.
The prosecution disclosed that police investigations revealed substantial evidence linking the accused to the theft.
Investigations unveiled a series of purchases and transactions made with the stolen money, including the acquisition of properties and vehicles. The trial continues as more details emerge.
