600,714 Candidates Write 2023 BECE Today

Today, on Monday, 7th August 2023, approximately 600,714 candidates are all geared up to write this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both School and Private Candidates across the nation.

The examination is scheduled to conclude on Friday, 11th August 2023, as declared by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The Council disclosed that a staggering 600,714 candidates have registered for the school examination, consisting of 300,323 male and 300,391 female candidates from 18,993 participating schools.

This figure exhibits an impressive 8.8% increase in entries when compared to last year's 552,276 candidates who took the BECE.

In parallel, the 2023 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates commenced on 31st July 2023.

According to WAEC, this year's WASSCE has witnessed a notable increase of 5.8% in entry figures compared to 2022, with 447,204 candidates registered for the examination.

Among these, 211,834 are male candidates, and 235,370 are female candidates, hailing from 975 schools across the country.

The WASSCE is being conducted at 834 designated centers, offering a diverse range of sixty subjects for candidates to choose from, comprising four core and fifty-six elective subjects.

The West African Examination Council remains optimistic about the educational progress in the country as demonstrated by the rising number of candidates partaking in these critical examinations.

The outcomes of these examinations will not only shape the future of individual students but will also provide insights into the overall performance and quality of education within the nation.
