LGBTQ+ Rights Ghana Director Slams Religious Leaders For Hate And Judgement

LGBTQi+ Right Ghana Director Alex Kofi Donkor

Alex Kofi Donkor, the founder, and director of LGBTQ+ Rights Ghana, has been blunt in his criticism of so-called men of God or Religious Leaders who ought to be welcoming rather than rejecting LGBTQI+ people. The movement is made up primarily of young individuals who are advocating for a safe, inclusive, and free society for LGBTQI+ people.

Making a case for the LGBTQi+ community on a Kumasi-based radio station, he said that rather than upholding his religion's command to love their neighbor as themselves, they are at the top of the scale of discrimination and hatred in Ghana.

On The Ultimate Cup of Tea, he had a conversation with Julius Caesar Anadem.

"Pastors and Imams in Ghana hate us most and I don’t like talking to them or having any debate with them. They don’t understand what they preach; they go about saying all kinds of filthy things about us"

"Usually, one would have thought they would be reasonable knowing their background as men of God but they are not. It is always stressful listening to them, they easily judge you", he lamented.

The idea that there are fewer LGBTQ people in Ghana is absurd, according to Mr. Donkor.

"We are many here, when I am sitting by my TV and watching stuff on Ghanaian TV stations, I see lots of people who appear on it being part of us but people don’t know. We are contributing a lot to the country"

"I am a researcher and a public health practitioner, my research is helping many Ghanaians who are not gay but they do not know. People need to appreciate us, we are not bad. We were created just like you" he said.

After visiting Ghana, US Vice President Kamala Harris made comments on LGBTQI that ignited a debate over how the issue should be treated globally as a matter of human rights.
