Yeni Malatyaspor of Turkey's second division has reported that goalkeeper Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan died at the age of 28 after the nation was struck by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake.
The deadly earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on Sunday night, February 5, while people were still sleeping.
Turkaslan was reported missing on Monday, and the team has now paid homage to its goalie, who died on Tuesday.
'Our goalkeeper, Ahmet Eyup Turkaslan, lost his life after being under the collapse of the earthquake. Rest in peace,' the club tweeted.
'We will not forget you, beautiful person.'
The catastrophic event has created tragedies in Turkey and Syria, killing at least 5,100 people and injuring thousands more.
Tremors were also reported as far away as Egypt, Lebanon, and Cyprus.
Turkaslan had played twice in the Turkish Cup [Ziraat Turkiye Kupasi] this season but had yet to play in the league.
