A Widow Cecelia Okyere bemoaned that her charcoal business is now in jeopardy after robbers took all 40 bags of charcoal on Valentine's Day.
The 26-year-old mother of four children went through the horror on Valentine's Day, a day dedicated to love and lovers.
Madam Okyere, speaking at a special Valentine's event organised by Legacy Foundation, an NGO that celebrates widows in Kumasi, recalled, through tears, how she awoke at morning to find her charcoal company looted and every bag stolen from her wooden shack.
"I live close to the Sofoline police station but I woke up this morning to my surprise, my 40 bags of charcoal is gone. How wicked can people be? I don’t have a husband and its a struggle to go by, why steal from me? she asked.
"I have been thinking since this happened. I am grateful for the support by Legacy Foundation, it won’t bring my charcoal back, but I appreciate their support and comfort", she said
Radio personality and presenter for EIB Networks Abusua 96.5 Justice Agyekum alias Elizato, awarded the widow 500 cedis.
He pledged to assist Madam Cecelia Okyere in resuming her business.
"I didn’t come along with my chequebook. But I am giving her 500 to comfort her. I will talk to a few friends and see how we can help he back on her feet. How wicked can some people be.
Why steal from a widow. I mean how do you steal from a charcoal seller. I am saddened my her story", he bemoaned the conduct of the thieves.
Elizato also offered 500 cedis to another widow who had been evicted from her home for not paying her rent. She is presently living on the grounds of a church.
The Legacy Foundation presented the widows with lunch and afterward parcels including bags of rice, beverages, water, and other delights.
