NDC Announces Date For 2024 Flagbearer Election

NDC Election

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set Saturday, May 6 as the date for their presidential primary.

The date was included in a timeline submitted during a Functional Executive Committee (FEC) meeting on Thursday, January 5.

According to the suggested timeline, the opposition party will accept nominations from Monday, February 22 through Wednesday, February 24.

Interested candidates will have between Monday, March 20 through Wednesday, March 22 to submit their applications.

The filing price has been set at GH500,000, with forms costing GH30,000.

From Monday, March 27 to Wednesday, March 29, aspirants will be vetted, and the results will be announced.

Aspirants with grievances will have until Thursday, April 6 to challenge any vetting committee rulings, following which the primaries will be held.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) has warned all flagbearer candidates to avoid using insults and allegations in their campaigns.

The party's national executive elections in December devolved into a smear campaign, which alarmed the Council of Elders.

"Council wishes to remind all contestants that acting contrary to laid down rules and regulations will carry severe sanctions, including disqualification of any contestant," it said in a statement ahead of the 10th National Delegates Congress at the Accra Sports Stadium.

"All contestants are reminded that the party stands supreme and this will not be sacrificed for the personal interest of any contestant, delegate or party member."

Former Finance Minister and Central Bank Governor Dr Kwabena Duffuor, as well as former Kumasi mayor Kojo Bonsu, have already expressed their intentions to run, while the party's perennial candidate for the previous three elections has been John Dramani Mahama, who helped fund the latest Congress.
