Kwesi Appiah Shows Interest In Vacant Black Stars Coach Job

Kwesi Appiah

As the hunt for a new senior national team coach continues, Kwesi Appiah is open to leading the Black Stars again.

The former Ghana international has agreed to return to coach the Black Stars for a third time. Appiah managed Ghana from 2012 to 2014, and he was in command when the Black Stars played in the World Cup in Brazil, but he was fired following the tournament.

He returned for a second two-year stint in 2017, however, his contract was not renewed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after Ghana failed to impress in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Following Appiah's departure, Charles Akonnor was named, followed by Milovan Rajevac for a second time until Otto Addo led the squad to the World Cup in Qatar.

After Ghana was eliminated from the group stage, Otto Addo resigned, leaving the leadership position vacant.

The GFA has been hunting for Otto Addo's replacement ever since. Former Brighton coach Chris Hughton, a member of Otto Addo's backroom staff, has been cited as a possible contender, and now Kwesi Appiah has indicated interest.

"The fact that I have not come out to say I have stopped coaching if the opportunity comes and I can help why not," the former Asante Kotoko star said in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.

"Once coaching is my destiny if I’m approached and I can help why not."

Kwesi Appiah was most recently the manager of the Ghanaian lower-tier club Kenpong Football School.
