Kwesi Appiah Confirms Submitting Application For Black Stars Head Coach Job

Kwesi Appiah

Kwesi Appiah has announced his third application for the position of Black Stars coach.

Appiah has led the Black Stars twice. He originally managed Ghana from 2012 to 2014, and he led the Black Stars to the World Cup in Brazil before being sacked after the tournament.

He returned for a second stint in 2017, which lasted two years as his contract was not renewed by the football association after Ghana failed to shine in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

However, with the resignation of Otto Addo, Appiah feels prepared for a third stint and has formally filed for the vacant position.

"It is true [that I have applied for the job]," Appiah said on Kumasi-based Sompa FM.

"When I heard that the FA had come out to reveal that no Ghanaian was part of the numerous applicants, I felt that being a Ghanaian, I had to prove that I can do something. So it compelled me to add my application to that of the foreigners."

Following Appiah's departure, Charles Akonnor was named, followed by Milovan Rajevac for a second time until Otto Addo led the squad to the World Cup in Qatar.

After Ghana was eliminated from the group stage, Otto Addo resigned, leaving the leadership position vacant.

Appiah is the first to disclose he applied for the post, but Chris Hughton has also applied and wants to be appointed, according to sources.

Mustapha Ussif, the Sports Minister, expects the new coach will be chosen shortly.
