Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto Resigns As Agric Minister

According to unconfirmed reports, Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has presented his resignation letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Minister, who holds a Doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the University of Cambridge, has served as Minister of Food and Agriculture since 2017 when the Akufo-Addo administration assumed power.

Mr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has not concealed his presidential ambitions, and his resignation is assumed to be to allow him to contest for the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has been at the forefront of the government's flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme, which has garnered mixed evaluations from the public and professionals.
