On December 5, 2022, the court remanded three suspects who were on trial for robbery and a gold scam into police custody.
The defendants, who included SSL Gold refinery owner George Essandor Akron, Kelvin Prince Boakye alias Don King, and Joy Kwame Genu alias George ABC, were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, and unlawful possession of a handgun, among other offences, in the Accra Circuit Court 10.
As a result of a police investigation into a gold fraud and robbery that occurred in Accra on November 8, 2022, the first accused, Kelvin Prince Boakye, was taken into custody on November 18.
Around November 29, 2022, and December 2, 2022, respectively, the accused Joy Kwame Genu and George Essandor Akron were taken into custody following more inquiry into the event.
Among the items taken from the suspects are two stunt guns, one unlicensed Bruni pistol with three live 9mm rounds, two bulletproof vests, and one ballistic helmet.
On November 24, 2022, the accuser Kelvin Prince Boakye appeared before Accra Circuit Court 10 and was ordered to remain in police prison until his next appearance on December 13, 2022.
The other two defendants, Joy Kwame Genu and George Essandor Akron, were charged on December 5, 2022, in the Accra Circuit Court 10, and were subsequently remanded into police custody with a December 20th court date for a hearing.
