Otto Addo Finally Speaks After World Cup Exit

Otto Addo

Otto Addo, the Black Stars' departing coach, thinks that his selection was contentious. Following Ghana's World Cup exit, coach Addo announced his resignation.

The Dortmund coach stated during a press conference at the team's hotel in Doha that his hiring was met with harsh criticism and that some Ghanaians wanted him to fail, which certainly occurred at the World Cup.

"I would never understand the mentality of those who think against a human to fail, and some humans are doing this, I would never understand it," he said.

Due to the experience he had gained at his club team and with the national team, the former Black Stars player claimed he was not worried about the assaults against him.

"I don’t fear any of your critics, I’m so long in the game and I’m used to this. For me, it is not a problem, I don’t fear anything, just God," he said.

He claimed that in order to counter the criticism, he would have preferred for Ghanaians to criticize his decisions whenever his team won a game.

"It’s easy when we lose, the first question is why did you do this and that, but when we win no questions come against me," he added.

The 47-year-old added that if the Black Stars had lost the friendly match against Switzerland, the same critics would have questioned why his star players were sitting on the bench.

He advised the media to utilize their influence to support players and coaches rather than to act as a forum for derogatory remarks.

Coach Addo will now concentrate on his club team, Dortmund, as trainer coach after resigning as the head coach of the Ghanaian team.

Ghana lost to Uruguay 2-0 in their last Group H encounter and was unable to advance to the round of 16 of the 2017 FIFA World Cup.
