Idowu Buhari, a suspected fraudster's girlfriend, was reportedly murdered in Sapade, in the Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Information gathered reveals that a disagreement involving money broke out between Buhari, an HND 1 student at the Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Sapade, and her boyfriend.
Obeta accused his girlfriend of holding onto the money one of his clients had transferred into her account, it was discovered during the argument.
Obeta reportedly killed Buhari when the dispute turned violent, according to reports.
Obeta allegedly concealed Buhari's body after committing the murder under the bunk of his bed as he waited for a period of time to secretly dispose of his girlfriend's body.
According to information obtained by our journalists, Buhari's body was discovered under Obeta's bed by neighbours who were worried about her whereabouts after an altercation with her lover.
Following the finding, the locals and neighbours attacked Obeta out of retaliation for his behaviour.
Obeta was about to be lynched by the mob when police officers stepped in, saved him, and transported him to the station.
Police officers are seen removing the suspect from the scene in their patrol car in a viral video clip.
Buhari was shown in an image that was included with the video clip as laying dead on the ground next to a bed. Her face was covered in blood, and a severe cut was visible around her neck.
The undergraduate just met Obeta, a source told our correspondent, adding that the suspect wasn't enrolled at the school.
The source said, "I was at the police station yesterday on this issue. They just met themselves not quite long. The guy is a Yahoo boy and he sells goods. But from what we gathered, the guy beat the girl to death because of his client’s money.
"The guy’s name is John Obeta; he is not a student, he just came to rent a house around the area. The house is a big building; the guy was not the only one living there and it is nemesis that caught up with him."
Contacted, the Students Union President of the institution, Ibrahim Najim, said, "We learnt one of our students was killed by her boyfriend; we are still trying to get more information about the circumstances surrounding her death, I will get back to you."
When informed of the situation, the DPO of the Ode-Remo Division took his men to the spot, where they found Buahri's lifeless body in a pool of blood, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the state police public relations officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi.
He said, "The suspect locked himself and his girlfriend inside his room and started beating the girl and hitting her head against the wall. All efforts made to persuade him to open the door proved abortive.
"Upon receiving the distress call, the DPO Ode-Remo Division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi, quickly led his men to the scene where they met the victim in a pool of her blood after forcing the door open.
"The victim was quickly rushed to the state hospital in Ishara but was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. The suspect, an indigene of Enugu State, was promptly arrested and taken to custody.
"On interrogation, the suspect, John Obeta, informed the police that he is an internet fraudster and that a certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend which she refused to relinquish to him."
According to Oyeyemi, Obeta went on to say that the girl's death was ultimately caused by a fight between them that began over money.
Oyeyemi, however, claimed that Lanre Bankole, the state's commissioner of police, had directed the suspect's immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department's Homicide Section for additional investigation and thorough prosecution.
