The military has reported that one Rufai Abubakar has been detained for impersonating a senior military commander at Burma Camp. The suspect's two wives have testified that their spouse is an actual military officer.
According to a statement made by Naval Captain M. A. Larbi, Director of Public Relations, Rufai Abubakar was attempting to enter a military post inside Burma Camp while impersonating a Senior Military Officer.
Rufai Abubakar, the suspect, has already been handed over to the Police CID for additional investigation and prosecution.
Given that his two wives, who lived in Ablekuma and Olebu, each mistakenly believed that their husband was an actual military commander, the military high command believes that many more people may have been duped by his impersonations and fraudulent schemes.
According to a military statement, he was being watched when he entered Burma Camp.
The suspect, who was decked out in a false Lieutenant Colonel rank-adorned military camouflage suit, claimed to be stationed at the Northern Command Headquarters and was headed to the Air Force Base to make travel arrangements to Tamale.
As he disembarked at a bus stop and made his way to the Air Force Base, the suspect who had entered Burma Camp in a commercial vehicle was intensively watched.
He admitted to not being a military member when the on-duty guards saw his unusual behaviour and questioned him.
He further said that he had pretended to be a senior military officer in order to con Mr Abdallah Abdul Fatahu out of three thousand Ghana cedis (GH $3000.00) under the guise of enlisting him in the Ghanaian military.
The suspect was in possession of fake military IDs, business cards, and other documents carrying his identity at the time of his arrest.
A toy handgun and multiple certifications, as well as fake Ghana Armed Forces recruitment application summary reports with the names of frauded individuals, were found during a follow-up search by the Military Police at his two houses in Ablekuma Fan Milk and Olebu, respectively.
