Death Toll In Bawku Conflict Reaches 18, Dozens Displaced

Bawku conflict

Following numerous tribal conflicts that resulted in the deaths of 18 people and the destruction of property in only two weeks, residents are abandoning the deadly Bawku area.

Bawku was attacked by unidentified gunmen, which prompted the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to request further security forces.

The mayor of Bawku, Hamza Amadu, asserted that MUSEC will protect people and property.

“18 deaths thus far. The murders have caused terror. We know folks are leaving town. We want to reassure residents that we’re not slacking. We’re protecting lives and property”

The two feuding Bawku clans have been urged by the National Peace Council to end their long-standing conflicts.

In the wake of the Mamprusi-Kusasi disagreement, it pushed the Kusasis to reconsider their decision to leave the Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee (BIEPC).

After failing to find a solution to the Bawku problem, the Kusasis separated from the group. The team was entrusted with encouraging constructive discourse among the people of Bawku.
