Sulley Muntari, a former Black Stars player, has declared his retirement from football at the age of 38.
"I’m done, I just did a few months with the local side. My son wanted me to play. I didn’t play for almost three years then my son decided to ask me to go and play. I did that," he told Sky Sports on Tuesday, November 29.
Muntari, who has been a professional player since 2002, thinks it's time to hang up his boots.
He most recently played for Ghanaian powerhouse Hearts of Oak, where he helped them win the FA Cup in just one season.
"I’m done! I just did a few months with the local side. My son wanted me to play. I didn’t play for almost three years. Then my son decided to ask me to go and play. I did that," Muntari told Sky Sports.
As the Black Stars compete at the 2022 World Cup, Muntari is in Qatar to support the team.
He was seen encouraging the players on the field before Monday's 3-2 victory over South Korea.
Muntari began his illustrious career with Liberty Professional, where he quickly advanced to become one of Ghana's top midfielders. In 2006, he significantly aided the Black Stars' first-ever World Cup appearance.
Muntari is one of three players for Ghana who have scored in multiple World Cup games and has participated in three World Cups. Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan round out the group.
Muntari won many club championships, including the 2009 Champions League with Inter Milan.
