The identity of the man in the widely circulated land tussle video has been confirmed by a senior police official of the Ghana Police Service's Property Fraud Unit as Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The senior police official also acknowledged that there had been multiple complaints made to his office concerning alleged intimidation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas about lands at TseAdo, but most complainants eventually decide not to take the issue further or are unable to do so.
After the CEO of Tiger Eye PI, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, released the Galamsey Economy Video, additional claims regarding the journalist's alleged land-grabbing actions in Tse-Ado, an Accra suburb, surfaced, and the public sought an explanation.
Anas strongly denied being the man shown on camera being approached by CPS guards—a privately licensed security firm that specializes in lands protection—while wearing a cornrow.
Top police sources have now confirmed that Anas Aremeyaw has been arrested. The guy in the video, Anas, is aware of its existence but chose not to take any action because the land was still the subject of a pending legal issue at the time.
According to the police source, Anas has been mentioned in several reports to the Property Fraud Unit about lands in the Tse-Ado region.
According to the authorities, individuals posing as Anas' agents and assigns reportedly threaten landowners and demolish properties without a permit.
According to the source, Anas Aremeyaw Anas often installs cameras to record any activity and erects a signpost that reads, among other things, "Property of Tiger Eye P. I Keep off."
Information reaching us indicates that reports of harm, gunshots, forceful takeovers, physical assault, and threats of harm have been reported to the Property Fraud Unit, all of which claim that the journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas is responsible.
The police source declined to comment on whether Anas has legal titles to the lands he claims.
With the exception of Madam Victoria Agyei Odoi, a lady who claimed Anas attempted to seize four of her land plots, most complainants are unable to properly prosecute their claims before the Property Fraud Unit.
"As a journalist we cannot say he has no right to own land and protect it if it is being taken away, that’s not what I am saying. But the cases reported were one too many but I can’t go into details" the source said.
"Some cases were transfered to other departments because it went beyond land ownership to assault etc but I don’t know what happened later. In most cases, it was also difficult for the complainants to actually show who the Anas is and whether he was the one who ordered the said action or was personally involved. But we know he claimed ownership of some Lands there. But that video in circulation is actually him that’s Anas Aremeyaw Anas. That’s him. Yes.. ." The source added.
