Manchester United Ends Critiano Ronaldo's Contract After Controversial Interview

Cristiano Ronaldo

The turbulent return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the team where he initially found fame has come to an end with the announcement of his departure from Manchester United with immediate effect.

Ronaldo, who finished the season in 2021–2022, as the club's top scorer, has not started the season as the new coach Erik ten Hag's first choice.

In an enraged interview with Piers Morgan, the 37-year-old took aim at the team, senior executives, and his manager, rendering his situation at Old Trafford unsustainable.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect,” the club wrote in a brief statement.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford."

In the summer of 2023, Ronaldo's Manchester United contract was scheduled to end.

To permit a transfer away from Manchester, Ronaldo and the Red Devils have mutually opted to end the contract at this moment.
