On Monday, a vehicle carrying four people blew two of its back tires and went off the road into the jungle at Essuehyia in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region, killing two people instantly and two later at the hospital.
According to Assistant Division Officer ll Wasiu Hudu, Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), 19 other passengers were injured in the crash to varying degrees.
According to him, the collision involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus with license plate GW 7181-22 that was travelling from Takoradi to Accra.
According to him, the Mankessim station of the GNFS immediately sent out personnel to rescue the casualties after receiving a call from the GNFS at 14:42 hours regarding an accident on the Mankessim-Apam section of the Cape Coast-Accra route.
Although the injured had already been sent to Mercy Women's Roman Hospital in Apam, he said that when the crew arrived, they discovered two dead bodies at the location.
He also stated that the collision could have been caused by the tires bursting out.
He said that an inquiry was ongoing.
