Attempted Assassination Of Aowin Chief Results In Four Death

Aowin attempted assassination

Following an attempted assassination of Beyeeman Tano Kwan Benbuin II, the Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area, four people were killed in a crossfire.

The four, one of whom goes by the nickname Skipper, were said to have surrounded the Paramount Chief's residence early on Sunday, November 6, in a purported effort to behead him, according to a report by 3News.

The four, however, were unlucky because royal guards noticed them on a CCTV recording at the palace. The four attackers and the palace guards then engaged in a gunfight.

"A lady was caught in the crossfire and sustained gunshot injuries. She is currently at the Enchi Government Hospital receiving treatment," a source told Connect FM.

The four were previously observed with their bodies laying in the roadway. The bodies were afterward left in the mortuary of the Enchi Government Hospital by the police.

According to reports, the palace guards had the upper hand and were able to shoot the four people to death.

The Palace has been placed under heavy security. The source said, "I can count more than six heavily armed policemen guarding the palace as I speak with you.

"Western Region Police Commander, regional Crime Officer and other top brass officers have arrived in the town from Sefwi Wiawso and taken over the case. They have already gone to the crime scene to assess the situation. They will be visiting the Paramount Chief for further questioning but he together with his elders have already given their initial statement. In fact, I hear they are the complainants."

What motivated the assassination attempt by the four young men who died is still unknown.

However, community sources assert that the effort may be connected to a chieftaincy conflict that has been going on since 2019 between the Omanhen and a competing party.

There are worries about potential retaliation assaults against the Palace and those who reside there.

However, 3news.com has reliable information that the Ghana Police Service is bolstering its Enchi presence in order to counteract any such threats.
