The MV Fair Partner, a heavy lift carrier/ship with two ship loaders and an eco-hopper as final components, has been delivered to the Takoradi Port.
The new Dry Bulk Terminal Conveyor System at the Port would be fully automated after the delivery, completing its full installation.
The Conveyor System automation will improve the handling of dry bulk cargo (manganese, bauxite, and clinker) for export and import at Ghana's main commercial ports.
These were contained in a statement that Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako released and signed, Marketing and Public Affairs Manager.
The new conveyor system at the Dry Bulk Terminal of the Port could load up to 120,000 tonnes of bauxite and manganese in 48 hours thanks to its discharge capacity of 2500 MT/hour, which is a significant improvement over the existing manual grab system with a loading rate of roughly 8,000 MT/24 hours.
The second phase of the Dry Bulk Terminal Project, which is wholly owned and run by Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, included the installation of the ship loaders, the eco hopper, and the dry bulk conveyor system (GPHA).
It claimed that by installing the Eco-hopper, dust and other pollution emissions would be greatly reduced, making port operations more ecologically friendly.
Additional project details were revealed, such as the second phase's administrative block, workshop, switching station, substations, and fully paved terminal and access road.
The first phase involved building an 800-meter quay wall with berth pockets that were excavated to a chart datum of16 meters.
The dry bulk terminal, which is 16 meters deep and 800 meters long, was set up to accommodate capsized ships by the harbour master at the port, Captain Richmond James Quayson, who oversaw the berthing of the ship carrying the equipment and the automation of the conveyor system.
The faster turnaround times for operations, according to Captain Quayson, would help speed up ship turnaround times at the quay and cut down on ship waiting times in anchorages.
Captain Ebenezer Afadzi, the director of port, praised the shareholders, management, and employees of GPHA for their efforts in the accomplishment.
He assured the GPHA as a whole as well as Ghana as a whole that the Port of Takoradi will efficiently operate the recently installed machinery at the Dry Bulk Terminal.
It would take up to four days to unload the two ship loaders and the eco-hopper, and up to four weeks to install and test them.
