Following the performance of the Cedi versus the Dollar and its impact on companies, some shopkeepers in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, have closed their stores.

They are also indignant about the exorbitant taxes they have to pay.

The majority of the traders involved deal in food items.

We would want to have a discussion with the government. Taxes and the performance of the Cedi both contribute to the high cost of doing business. It is unfair that we have been paying tax with our profit margins, a trader said.
