Asantehene and Torgui Sri III

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has been invited by the Awormefia of the Anlo State, Togbe Sri III, to attend this year's Hogbetsotso festival.

Togbe Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, the Dufia of Amugo-Wego Traditional Area and a representative of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, presented the invitation to the Asantehene on behalf of Togbe Sri III.

A delegation from the Anlo State led by Togbe Tenge Dzokoto and composed of sub-chiefs visited the Asante king on Wednesday at the Manhyia Palace.

Through Gordon Kofi Wukanya, the Voltarian linguist in the Ashanti area, Togbe Tenge informed the King of their mission and stated that their State's paramount chief had "asked that you grace this year's Hogbetsotso festival."

He handed the King a letter of invitation while emphasizing that "it is not an invitation but a request."

Additionally, he stated that the event, which is observed annually on the first Saturday in November, is intended to combine the culture of the Anlo state and that of the Asantes.

His Majesty accepted the offer and stated his desire to visit the State despite declining prior personal invitations.

If he is not restricted culturally, he stated, he will participate in the celebration.

"I will peruse your invitation letter, if the date doesn’t coincide with traditional demands or anything, I will attend", he assured the guests.

"We are grateful", Togbe Tenge said in response to Otumfuo’s assurance.

Gordon Kofi, a linguist, thanked the Asantehene profusely for granting the Anlo state's citizens a plot of land in the Asante Kingdom of Kumasi.

He said, “Thank you for giving us land here at Anloga. We have Ashanti New Town in the Volta Region but it is not occupied by Asantes as is the case here”.

The 60th Hogbetsotso festival will take place this year.

It will be celebrated under the theme, “60 Years of Anlo Hogbetsotso Za: Uniting for Development, Sustaining our Unique Cultural Commonwealth for Future Generations”.

The event will take place throughout November and culminate on November5,2022, with a magnificent durbar.

The celebration commemorates the Ewe people's exodus from the oppressive tyranny of King Agorkorli in Togo.
