The government of Ghana is contemplating partnering with either Nigeria or Benin to submit a bid for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Mustapha Ussif, the country's minister of sports.
"There’s a discussion that Ghana should bid with the likes of Nigeria and Benin. We are still considering it. We have not taken a decision yet but there is that discussion that we should get sister countries so that we can put in that bid," he revealed.
The deadline for countries to express interest in hosting the competition has been set by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) for 11 November.
After Guinea's rights were revoked due to worries about its facilities and infrastructure, a new host had to be chosen.
The governing organization of the continent anticipates receiving finalized proposals, including supporting documentation, suggested host cities, and government guarantees, at its Cairo headquarters by December 16.
From January 5 to 25, 2019, Caf inspection teams will go to the nations that are bidding in an effort to select a viable substitute for Guinea.
The 24-member Caf executive committee will review the findings from the inspections before selecting one or more co-hosting nations for the 2025 finals on February 10.
Ghana co-hosted alongside Nigeria in 2002, and they most recently hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008.
