(PHOTOS) Ekumfi Abor Holds Puberty Rites For Girls

The yearly Akwanbo celebration was observed by the Chiefs and residents of Ekumfi Abor in the Central region of Ghana.

The events this year concentrated on increasing girls' access to school, lowering adolescent pregnancies, and offering all-encompassing assistance to empower female children.

Puberty rites, which are important to the people of Abor since they greatly contribute to the upbringing of females, were administered to fourteen town maidens.

The ceremonies are being performed for the second time in a row since famous energy analyst Nana Amoasi VII was appointed town chief and ankobeahene of the Ekumfi Traditional Area.

The objective is to prepare the girl-child to protect herself against exploitations of all sorts and to prepare her adequately for a meaningful social life, Nana Amoasi VII said.

 

The young ladies went to the palace of Nana Kwebu Ewusi VIII, the paramount chief of Abeadze State, where they were shown some Fante customs.

Later, the maidens were treated to dinner and given cooking lessons, focusing on traditional foods.
