John Dramani Mahama, former president of Ghana, has bemoaned the volume of abandoned projects in the Volta Region.
He claims a number of initiatives launched by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration have ceased.
"Projects initiated by the NDC have been abandoned, and work is progressing slowly on others that must be finished in the region. This administration requested contractors to halt construction on certain of the projects," Mr Mahama highlighted.
He named other projects as either abandoned or moving slowly, including the Sokode-Ho road, Jasikan-Hohoe, the junction at the UHAS roundabout, and the Volivo bridge across the southern Volta river.
The former president declared that the future NDC administration will place a strong emphasis on the development requirements of the area and complete all abandoned projects while speaking at the grand durbar marking the culmination of the Asogli Yam Festival in Ho.
However, the former President pledged, "But I make a vow of the NDC that, God willing and in gratitude for your votes in 2025, all these projects would recommence."
The administration governed by Nana Akufo-Addo, according to John Dramani Mahama, has failed in its efforts to combat corruption.
He made this statement in response to violations listed in the 2021 Auditor General's Report.
The nation, according to the former president, has significant obstacles and must shun selfishness in order to promote progress.
"Self-centeredness has faded despite the strong foundations left by our forebears," he observed.
"The battle against corruption is utterly out of the NPP government's hands. In his inaugural speech, President Akufo-Addo pledged to safeguard the purse. That public coffer is no longer accessible. The revelations in the Auditor General's report for 2021 are merely a small sample of how corruption seems to have been institutionalized under this administration.
Thus, Mr Mahama urged a coordinated effort to combat the canker.
“I am using this festival to draw attention to this important national issue that requires the support of all citizens. Economic difficulties in the country are unbearable. The cost of living has increased significantly because of rising inflation. Prices are changing in the market every day, and this makes it difficult for the ordinary Ghanaian to survive.”
