On the instructions of Deputy Minister George Mireku Duker, a member of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources personnel was detained.
Gabriel Sarpong was detained for participating in mining-related operations totalling more than GH$200,000 in the name of the Deputy Minister and extorting money from unlicensed miners.
Tuesday, September 13 saw the capture of Gabriel Sarpong thanks to a tip from a collaborator.
The suspect acknowledged all charges of engaging in fraudulent behaviour brought against him.
In order to guarantee that Mr Sarpong receives a harsh sentence from the law, Mr Mireku Duker, who is also the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency's Member of Parliament, has urged the security apparatus to handle the situation carefully.
He used the chance to say that Mr Sarpong's prosecution will serve as a warning to anyone engaged in similar operations to stop.
At the moment, the suspect is being held at the Ministries Police Station in Accra.
