The police in Kumasi have seized bottles of locally produced fruit drinks that may have been laced with cannabis, often known as "wee."
The 624 bottles of beverages were found in a Kia Bongo vehicle with the license plate AW 2078-20 that was being driven by a 60-year-old man named Owusu Afriyie.
The Drug Law and Intelligence Unit (DLEU), based in the Kumasi suburb of Krofrom, carried out the effective police intelligence operation on September 1, 2022, at 4:10 PM.
Four suspects, including Owusu Afriyie, were detained as a consequence of the security operation that netted the illicit goods; they are currently being questioned before being sent to court.
The other three suspects are Georgina Ofori, 32, who runs the bar at Kronom, Collins Adjei, 26, and Richard Azimbe, 36, also known as "Batistuta," who is the owner of the goods.
According to a police report, "The car contained six hundred and twenty-four bottles of locally produced fruit juice or beverages suspected of having been laced with cannabis, as well as thirty-two (32) boxes each containing 12 plastic bottles and four (4) sacks each containing sixty (60) plastic bottles.
Richard Azimbe, a.k.a. "Batistuta," a suspect aged 36, who is the owner of the aforementioned products, and Collins Adjei, a.k.a. Adjei, a.k.a. the helper in the delivery of the aforementioned items, aged 26, were also detained.
After that, according to the report, the police squad "proceeded to Kronom near Kumasi and apprehended suspect Georgina Ofori, aged 32, at her drinking location and collected a bottle comparable to the substance."
Suspects are still being held for processing, and anybody related to the exhibits will face legal action, according to the police report.
