Accelerate Printing Of Ghana Cards - EC Urges NIA

Ghana Card

The National Identification Authority has been requested by the Electoral Commission to speed up the printing of Ghana cards so that potential voters can register to vote.

Yesterday, the Commission declared the Ghana card the only valid form of identification for voter registration, ending the use of guarantors.

This will become effective once a constitutional provision that has not yet been spelt out matures.

The EC thinks the guarantor system is riddled with difficulties and is no longer able to deliver a safe system of voter registration for the nation.

This is possible with the cooperation of all stakeholders, according to Samuel Tettey, the Commission's Deputy Chairman in charge of operations.

We anticipate that all participants in the electoral process, including political parties, would urge everyone without a Ghana card to go to the National Identification Authority's offices and apply for one.

"Once more, we request that the NIA quicken the printing of the Ghana Card so that anyone interested in registering with us may do so easily," he continued.
