The Ministry of Works and Housing has kicked off a giant developmental programme in the Ashanti and Greater Accra Region.
The Ministry is about to commence the construction of 12,000 redesigned affordable housing units in these two most populous regions in Ghana.
The program, dubbed "Me Fie," or "My House," is scheduled to commence in November of this year.
It is aimed at anyone who can show proof of a consistent source of income, including employees in the public sector as well as those in the private and informal sectors.
Under the terms of the program's public-private partnership, the Minister of Works and Housing's administration will cover 40% of the cost of the housing units by providing the necessary land and infrastructure, including roads, water, electricity, drainage, and sewage systems.
In an interview with the sector minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, he indicated that more than 161.87 hectares of land have already been reserved for the programme's launch.
The minister provided more information, stating that under the terms of the agreement, the private sector or developer's sole focus would be on building the homes and selling them to the people on the payroll who could pay in instalments to specific financial institutions and banks acting as off-takers.
These 12,000 housing units are expected to be constructed at Dedesua and Pokuase in the Ashanti Region and Greater Accra Region respectively.
