Walewale-Nalerigu Road Cuts Off After Heavy Rainfall

flood in the North

The North East Region of Ghana faced a severe transportation crisis as a result of a bridge collapse caused by relentless downpours.

The bridge on the vital Walewale-Nalerigu road gave way under the force of the heavy rains, disrupting crucial transportation and severing communities.

The collapse has resulted in a complete break in connectivity between the Tinguri and Gbani communities, both located within the West Mamprusi Municipality.

Travelers and motorists are stranded due to the unexpected disruption, causing inconvenience and uncertainty for those who depend on this route for their daily activities.

According to a resident, the region experienced an onslaught of torrential rains that persisted from early morning until midday on Wednesday.

This deluge resulted in the erosion and subsequent washing away of portions of the road, particularly in the vicinity of the river between Tinguri and Gbani.

"In the wake of this unfortunate incident, there is currently no viable alternative for travel between Walewale and Nalerigu, leaving both residents and commuters in a state of limbo," Mr. Wumbei stated.

The repercussions of the flooding extend beyond the road itself. The affected communities are now isolated, making it impossible for people to conduct their daily routines and engage in commercial activities.

This isolation has effectively cut off the administrative capital, Nalerigu, from neighboring economic centers such as Walewale.

Efforts to restore access are already underway, with local authorities collaborating to find solutions to the transportation emergency.

The disaster has prompted discussions about the need for improved infrastructure that can withstand the region's weather challenges, as well as the importance of developing alternative routes to prevent such crises in the future.
